Stilo Lighthouse - a trip from Kopalino to one of the most beautiful lighthouses on the Baltic Sea
A metal tower dating from 1904–1906, hidden in the forest on a dune, the Stilo Lighthouse in Osetnik is a must-see for any visit to Kopalino. Here's how to visit it.
A few kilometers east of Kopalino, in the village of Osetnik (formerly Stilo), stands one of the most distinctive lighthouses on the Polish coast— the Stilo Lighthouse . It's a natural destination for anyone vacationing in the area.
History and construction
The lighthouse was built between 1904 and 1906 , designed by German architect Walter Körte. It was built because of the frequent groundings of ships on this stretch of coast. Stilo is one of only two lighthouses in Poland with an all-metal construction (the other being the lighthouse in Jastarnia)—it is constructed of cast steel plates bolted together. The plate connections are visible upon entering.
A tower that catches the eye
The tower measures 33.4 meters high , and the light is 75 meters above sea level, as the lighthouse stands on a high dune about a kilometer from the shore. Its most recognizable feature is its three-color design : black at the bottom, white in the middle, and red at the top. The observation deck offers a sweeping panorama of the Baltic Sea and surrounding forests.
How to get from Kopalino
The lighthouse lies east of Kopalino, surrounded by forest. It can be reached by car (parking is available nearby), by bike, or on foot—the surrounding trails lead through the pine forest and dunes. It's a good half-day option: a walk along the forest path, up to the terrace, and back along the seashore.
Practical tips
- The lighthouse is open to visitors seasonally - it is worth checking the current opening hours before your trip.
- There is a fee to climb the mountain; there are small souvenirs at the ticket office.
- There are steep stairs leading up to the terrace – please wear comfortable shoes.
- The best light for photos is in the morning and before sunset.
What to combine with a visit
A trip to Stilo can easily be combined with a walk along the wild beaches in Kopalino or Lubiatowo, or with a visit to the Choczewskie Cisy nature reserve . For active people, the area is crisscrossed with marked hiking and cycling trails, including one leading to the lighthouse.
Stilo is a memorable lighthouse—metallic, sleek, and hidden in the forest. It's hard to imagine a better postcard from your vacation in Kopalino.
